The combination of sustainable energy and innovative street furniture was recently realized in Wiesbaden on the Dern’schen site, where two solar benches were installed in November of this year. The initiative for this came from the youth conference.

The benches are equipped with solar panels and therefore not only serve as comfortable seating, but also enable the environmentally friendly charging of smartphones. They therefore make a valuable contribution to the digitalization of public spaces. They also record environmental data such as temperature and humidity, which offers a further practical benefit.

“For me, a smart city is more than just technology,” emphasizes Maral Koohestanian. “It is innovative, resilient, sustainable and adapts to the needs of its citizens. With the solar benches, we are showing how these values can be experienced in public spaces. They stand for the combination of sustainable energy, digital networking and very practical benefits. At the same time, they are a powerful symbol of how ideas from the youth conference become tangible results that enrich everyday life.”

Dr. Patricia Becher emphasizes that the solar benches are an example of how young people’s ideas can lead to tangible change. The project combines safety, innovation and sustainable use of public space.

The installation of the solar benches on the Dern’schen site represents another important step in the cooperation between young people and the administration. It illustrates how a vision of the youth conference becomes a tangible result that enriches everyday life and helps the city of Wiesbaden on its way to a smart and sustainable future.
