The district of Teltow-Fläming is taking a big leap into the future and providing over 6,000 households, business locations and schools in all of its towns and villages with high-speed internet. In this way, the district is securing the digital services of general interest for its citizens in the long term, strengthening its attractiveness as a business location and thus ensuring greater participation and an equalization of living conditions between urban and rural areas in the future.
The project began with a ground-breaking ceremony at the Gebrüder Grimm elementary school in Ludwigsfelde: it is one of a total of 61 schools that are to be sustainably prepared for increasingly digital-based teaching by providing them with high-speed internet. Among others, Brandenburg’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Steinbach, Member of Parliament Erik Stohn, District Administrator Kornelia Wehlan and Daniel Knohr, Head of the atene KOM regional office in Leipzig, attended the ceremonial start of construction.
Digitization of schools is a priority
The digitalization of schools is an important topic in the district of Teltow-Fläming. All schools in the district are to be equipped with digital end devices with the help of federal funding from the Digital Pact for Schools. The prerequisite for their effective use is an efficient digital infrastructure, which can now be realized with the help of federal broadband funding. This is why the district has even prioritized the broadband supply of educational institutions: the 61 schools will be supplied with gigabit Internet first, followed by the 130 commercial locations and 5,800 private connections. The digitalization of education in Teltow-Fläming thus goes hand in hand with the subsidized broadband expansion.
This expansion project is made possible by joint funding from the federal government and the state of Brandenburg. They are supporting the gigabit expansion with a total of around 46.3 million euros. This leaves the district with a contribution of around 2.1 million euros to provide its schools, businesses and citizens with a sustainable and high-performance digital infrastructure.
