The district of Börde (Saxony-Anhalt) today reached an important milestone in the expansion of gigabit fiber optics in the region. With a specially organized “half-time meeting” in Haldensleben – according to their own information, 54% of the expansion has already been completed to date – the representatives of the district wanted to make a very clear statement:

“Broadband and explicitly fiber optic expansion is seen as a public service, as a development factor for rural areas and also as an element of economic development. (…)
Every crisis shows us the deficits; we learn from every crisis for the future. Yesterday the word ‘home office’ was known, today society is using it. We are creating the conditions, we are creating connections in every street and for every home. It’s half-time for the largest infrastructure project in the Börde district.”

As the project would not be feasible without the extensive support of the federal broadband funding, the district also invited representatives of aconium GmbH, the project sponsor of the federal broadband funding program, to today’s conference.

aconium Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller emphasized in his speech that it is important to continue to resolutely drive forward the expansion of ultra-fast gigabit connections in Germany as quickly as possible, across the board and with as little bureaucracy as possible. The company will continue to work with full commitment to achieve this goal.

For the eight expansion projects in the municipalities of Barleben, Elbe-Heide, Flechtingen, Niedere Börde, Oebisfelde-Weferlingen, Oschersleben (Bode), Wanzleben-Börde and Westliche Börde, the provisionally approved federal funding amounts to a good 94.4 million euros.

After completion of the gigabit fiber optic expansion in the Börde district, almost 34,000 households, over 5,600 commercial enterprises and more than 250 institutional customers – including 65 schools – will benefit from fiber optic connections directly to the building or directly to the user (FTTB/FTTH).
