“The eastern part of Gettenbach will also have high-speed Internet by the summer vacations, and Breitband Main-Kinzig GmbH and the companies involved are working hard to achieve this,” explained District Administrator Thorsten Stolz. Accompanied by Jörg Karnelka, Simone Roth (both from Breitband-Main-Kinzig GmbH), Mayor Gerald Helfrich (Gründau), representatives of the municipality, the commissioned construction company and the aconium, a project sponsor officially authorized by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), he travelled to Gettenbach, the small town of Gründau, on 28 March. On March 28, he came to Gettenbach, the smallest district of the municipality of Gründau in the Main-Kinzig district, to get a first-hand impression of the expansion of the broadband infrastructure. Civil engineering work has already been completed in the districts of Hain-Gründau, Lieblos and Rothenbergen. Now the goal is also in sight in Gettenbach. In total, there are around 100 sub-projects in the Main-Kinzig district. The last areas are currently being connected to the digital network. Jörg Karnelka, Managing Director of Breitband-Main-Kinzig GmbH, confirmed that the remaining projects are all about to be implemented. “The Main-Kinzig district is one of the first projects to be on the home stretch using the operator model. This is primarily the result of the good cooperation between all those involved at federal, state and local level,” said Manfred Henning, Head of the Regional Office for Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland at aconium GmbH. In the area of infrastructure expansion, the focus is on regional development. Households, hospitals, industrial estates, schools, social facilities – the entire range of public institutions must be involved, said Henning. In the Gettenbach district, the initiative for the expansion came primarily from Gettenbach Castle. The residential home there is home to 60 people. But of course the other villagers are also looking forward to being able to use the NGA high-speed network soon. The expansion will make an important contribution to increasing the attractiveness of the Main-Kinzig district for citizens and businesses. Thanks to the support of the federal broadband funding program, a total of over 2,600 households and 93 companies in the Main-Kinzig district will have access to bandwidths of 50 Mbit/s and higher once the work has been completed. Around 2.4 million euros have been made available from the BMVI’s federal funding program, around 1.9 million euros from state funds and just under 485,000 euros from the district’s own funds.
