On 6 November 2017, Marc Walter, Branch Manager of aconium GmbH and Christian Pegel, Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitalization in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, handed over the final funding decisions for the broadband expansion to the District Administrator of the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, Rolf Christiansen.
In a resolution passed on 10 December 2015, the Ludwigslust-Parchim district council instructed the district administrator to apply for funding for broadband expansion and, if approved, to pass it on to suitable telecommunications companies.
The federal funding program for broadband expansion will give the expansion of high-speed internet in the district an additional significant boost. Funds from the first call for projects, i.e. for the first three of sixteen project areas, are to be awarded. In his welcoming address at the Parchim District Office, Minister Christian Pegel pointed out the large share of federal funds that the state was able to secure for broadband expansion: “As a state, we are really catching up. The cooperation between ministries and administrative districts has proven itself here.”
In the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, the federal and state governments are providing a three-digit million sum for high-speed Internet. District Administrator Rolf Christiansen emphasized that this is of great importance for citizens and businesses. The federal funding program for broadband expansion started on 18 November 2015 and all municipalities had already received funding decisions for preparatory consulting services of up to 50,000 euros each from this program.
