On October 22, 2015, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) issued the directive “Funding to support broadband expansion in the Federal Republic of Germany” (funding directive). The amendment to the guideline came into force on 03.07.2018. The purpose of the funding is to support effective and technology-neutral broadband expansion in the Federal Republic of Germany in order to achieve a sustainable, future-proof and high-performance broadband network (NGA network, Next Generation Access) in underserved areas that are not currently covered by an NGA network and in which no NGA network will be built by private investors in the next three years (so-called white NGA spots). The amended guidelines of the federal broadband funding program support expansion projects that achieve gigabit network coverage. All calls are published on the BMVI website and can also be found on the pages of the Federal Broadband Funding Program.
