The expansion of the broadband network continues in the district of Osnabrück. On 14.06.2018, Helmut Bei der Kellen (local mayor of Kalkriese), District Administrator Michael Lübbersmann, Rainer Ellermann (local mayor of Ostercappeln), Erik Ballmeyer (local mayor of Venne), Heiner Pahlmann (mayor of Bramsche), Stephan Simon (district of Osnabrück) and representatives of the telecommunications company carrying out the work came together for the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony in Venner Moor for the “Bramsche-Kalkriese and Ostercappeln” expansion lot.

The broadband expansion in Melle-Ost and Bad Essen-Ost had already begun the day before. The broadband expansion in the town of Bramsche and the municipality of Ostercappeln is being implemented by the district’s own infrastructure company TELKOS, which focuses on expanding the digital infrastructure in the outlying areas of the towns and municipalities in the district of Osnabrück in order to open up underserved regions. District Administrator Michael Lübbersmann saw the broadband expansion in Venner Moor as an example of the importance of the district-wide infrastructure project for the district: “TELKOS identified this area early on as an example project for fiber optic expansion so that all private customers can use a modern infrastructure.” According to him, the aim was also for companies to receive fast Internet in a timely manner.

The municipal representatives from Ostercappeln and Bramsche also welcomed the supply of the economy and agreed that the municipalities must create the framework conditions for this today in order to remain attractive business locations in the future. The infrastructure project is part of the Osnabrück district’s digitalization concept and is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) with 15 million euros as part of the first of two funding applications. In addition, the district and its 34 towns and municipalities will contribute 13.7 million euros of their own funds as well as 5 million euros in funding from Lower Saxony.

A few weeks ago, the first symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the district took place in Bad Essen. Broadband expansion is now beginning in the areas south and east of the Ostercappeln town center, north of the Venner town center as well as in the “Niewedde” area in Bramsche-Kalkriese, in the Venner Moor and in the “Tannerkamp” industrial estate in Venne. For the subsidized broadband expansion in the district, 6,200 households and almost 700 companies as well as one secondary school, three elementary school and seven kindergartens are to benefit from bandwidths of at least 50 Mbps. To this end, 542 kilometers of civil engineering work is to be carried out.
