In the district of Goslar on March 7, District Administrator Thomas Brych, Thomas Wiesenhütter from the district of Goslar, representatives of the Broadband Competence Center of Lower Saxony, Matthias Schulze-Mantei (aconium, project sponsor on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, BMVI), the project coordinators of the district of Goslar and representatives of the telecommunications company carrying out the project picked up the spades in the Bassgeige industrial estate and heralded the start of broadband expansion in the district of Lower Saxony.
District Administrator Thomas Brych stated: “Fast Internet connections have become an integral part of our lives – both privately and in business. They are an important and indispensable locational advantage for many companies.” He thanked Thomas Wiesenhütter from the district of Goslar and all those involved in the infrastructure project for their support. The federal government is subsidizing the infrastructure expansion project with almost 550,000 euros as part of the federal broadband funding program. The district is also receiving co-financing of 800,000 euros from the state of Lower Saxony from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD). The district and municipality are contributing just under 149,000 euros of their own funds to the expansion of the broadband network. The funding amount serves to cover a profitability gap between the costs incurred for the broadband expansion and the expected income from it.
A total of 3,467 households, 259 companies, a school and a hospital as well as a further 34 administrative buildings in rural regions will be connected to the network. With the broadband expansion, the residents of the district will be able to use fast Internet, so that 3073 households, 234 companies and 27 institutional customers will be able to use Internet speeds of 50 Mbit/s and higher, and three companies will be able to use Internet speeds of 1 Gbit/s and higher. Even businesses located far away from the towns, such as Lebenshilfe Goslar based in Probsteiburg, are supplied with the latest technology.
