In the Main-Tauber district, the expansion of the sixth cluster began on Wednesday, February 21, in Höhefeld, a village in the large district town of Wertheim in the north of Baden-Württemberg. The entire expansion area includes the towns of Wertheim and Freudenberg as well as the Gamburg district of the municipality of Werbach.

Once the construction work in the sixth cluster of the infrastructure project has been completed, download speeds of up to 200 Mbit/s and up to 100 Mbit/s upload speeds will be possible. In future, 109 households will be supplied with FTTH (fiber-to-the-home). District Administrator Reinhard Frank and the Mayor of Wertheim, Wolfgang Stein, came together with local politicians and the telecommunications companies and construction firms involved for the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony in Wertheim. “With a high-quality digital infrastructure, we can ensure the attractiveness of our district,” said District Administrator Reinhard Frank. “Today’s go-ahead for the further expansion complements the fiber optic network in our district and makes us fit for the digital future.”

Mayor Wolfgang Stein was delighted that following the previous investments in the town’s broadband expansion, the remaining underserved areas will now also be connected thanks to the joint project between the district and the towns and municipalities. Dr. Veit Steinle (aconium GmbH, project sponsor for the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure) emphasized that access to fast Internet increases the quality of life of the population and the attractiveness of rural areas for companies. The broadband network is being expanded in nine clusters in the Main-Tauber district. A total of 207 kilometers of civil engineering will be implemented.

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure is funding the infrastructure project with 10.2 million euros as part of the federal broadband funding program. A further 4.1 million euros in funding is being provided by the state of Baden-Württemberg. The district is also contributing 6.1 million euros of its own funds to finance the expansion project.
