February 16, 2018, Markt Heiligenstadt: The federal government’s educational work continues. Under the heading “Current questions on the implementation of the federal broadband funding program”, local representatives from Upper Franconia and the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), together with aconium GmbH, project sponsor for the federal broadband funding program, addressed current developments in broadband expansion.
The event was hosted by Markt Heiligenstadt’s First Mayor, Helmut Krämer, and the response to the information event was great: more than 60 municipal representatives gathered in the Oertelsscheune in Markt Heiligenstadt to enter into a dialog with Emmi Zeulner (Member of the Bundestag), Dr. Tobias Miethaner (Head of the Digital Society Department at the BMVI) and Tim Brauckmüller (Managing Director of aconium GmbH). The municipalities in the region have successfully acquired federal funding for broadband expansion – now the implementation is starting.
The main topic of the event was the implementation of the infrastructure measures in the so-called ‘operator model’. Here, the expansion of the passive network infrastructure is carried out by the municipalities themselves, e.g. in the form of a special-purpose enterprise. In Markt Heiligenstadt, the BMVI and aconium provided information on the key procedural steps and innovations of the funding program and discussed with the guests how the municipalities can position themselves for the future on the way to the gigabit society.
The two-hour event was a great success: “We didn’t expect such a great response,” explains Tim Brauckmüller and adds: “Offering information events on site is immensely important. This also allows specific problems to be addressed and solved quickly. The feedback makes it clear that we are all working together to bring fast Internet to the country.”
