Cases of coronavirus infections in Germany are on the rise. Doctors and hospitals must prepare for a very high volume of patients in the coming months. It is therefore important to treat patients particularly quickly and efficiently and still have enough time to treat each individual patient. Thanks to digitalization, real progress has been made with the introduction of paperless patient files. The example of Klinikum Fichtelgebirge shows just how great the benefits are and how important digitalization really is in the healthcare sector. In our latest episode DEUTSCHLAND DIGITAL! Success stories of digitization we visited the clinic in Marktredwitz in the district of Wunsiedel, Bavaria, a modern example of digital transformation in the healthcare sector. Above all, the e-file means more security for patients.
Accessing current findings, X-ray images or blood values with just a few clicks or explaining diagnoses clearly at the patient’s bedside – the benefits of the digital patient file in hospital are obvious. All treatment-relevant information about the patient is available at any workstation at any time. Changes to the course of treatment, acute interventions and other medical information are transmitted in real time to all relevant areas of the hospital. Digital input, which can be carried out by several people at the same time, minimizes potential sources of error.
The e-file also gives doctors outside the ward a quicker overview of the patient’s state of health and treatment and also improves doctor-patient communication. Even in times of increased patient volume, as is currently noticeable in many practices and hospitals, there is more time for patient consultations during ward rounds.
Another advantage: the quality of patient care improves and the efficiency between doctors and nursing staff is significantly higher. An example of modern digital transformation that makes the workplace more attractive for specialist and nursing staff.
