In the last few days, five municipalities have taken an important step towards the digital future: the federal funding program for broadband expansion provided by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has kicked off broadband expansion in several regions of Germany over the past two weeks. The municipalities will receive a total of over 12 million euros in federal funding.

On Thursday, October 8, the high-speed fibre optic network in Cleebronn in Baden-Württemberg was launched. Once the construction work is complete, more than 1,500 households, 54 companies, two schools and three administrative buildings will be connected to the high-speed Internet.

Construction work for the expansion of the gigabit network also began in Sinsheim in the Rhine-Neckar district on Monday, October 12. As part of the broadband funding program, the municipality will be connected with fibre optics, giving almost 350 companies access to the gigabit-capable network.

Also on Monday, October 12, a ground-breaking ceremony took place in the market town of Waldbröl (North Rhine-Westphalia). Once the project has been completed, more than 740 households, over 30 companies and eight schools will benefit from the high-speed Internet connection.

The project continued on Thursday, October 14, in Neunheiligen in Thuringia. The gigabit roll-out began there, with more than 1,500 households, 80 companies and 69 institutional customers, including 60 schools and educational institutions, to be connected with fiber optics once the construction work is complete.

On Thursday, October 15, the municipality of Geislingen in the district of Göppingen celebrated the start of construction work on the broadband expansion with an official ground-breaking ceremony. Two schools will be equipped with future-proof fiber optic technology.
