In November, more and more households, companies and organizations in Germany continued to benefit from the subsidized gigabit expansion. This is exemplified by the 14 decisions handed over and a total of 18 ground-breaking ceremonies and (partial) start-ups that took place last month as part of the federal broadband funding program.
The associated 32 expansion projects alone will provide around 29,800 previously underserved connections with gigabit bandwidths once all construction measures have been completed, including around 22,500 households, over 1,700 companies and almost 200 institutions.
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) is supporting these projects with around 151 million euros from federal broadband funding. Together with the supplementary state funding programs and the municipalities’ own contribution, the federal government, the states and the municipalities are jointly creating the basis for nationwide and future-proof broadband coverage and thus paving the way for the gigabit society.
As a result, more and more funding recipients in the federal broadband funding program are achieving their goal: regional broadband expansion with a gigabit-capable fiber optic infrastructure as an essential locational advantage and part of the public services provided to the regional population.
