Today, the mayors of Rügen met for a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony on the open space in front of the Precise Resort Neddesitz. The laying of fiber optic cables (broadband), financed by funding from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), will begin here. As part of the ceremony, words of welcome were read out by the Federal Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

The chairman of the association and chairman of the association meeting and mayor of the Baltic seaside resort of Sellin, Mr. Reinhard Liedtke, welcomed the invited guests. The guests were then invited to a reception, during which the Head of the Digital Society Department at the BMVI, Mr. Tobias Miethaner, conveyed greetings from the Federal Minister Alexander Dobrindt and presented the final funding decision from the BMVI.

Christian Pegel, Minister for Energy, Infrastructure and Digitalization in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, subsequently handed over the final co-financing notification from the state.

From 2 p.m., the information mobile of the Breitband@Mittelstand campaign, which had arrived especially for the occasion, was available to the public. Anyone interested was able to find out about the possibilities offered by high-speed Internet. Technical applications such as telepresence robots and 3D printers were available on the vehicle. A good opportunity to take a look into the future of communication technology.
