Funding for broadband expansion was a key topic at the Digital Regions – Today and Tomorrow congress. Employees of aconium GmbH, the project sponsor of the federal funding program for broadband expansion, presented transparent processes and provided information on the possibilities and requirements for funding. Stefan Seidenglanz, Head of the Paying Office at aconium GmbH, spoke on the 2nd day of the congress about requesting and paying out funds in the federal funding program. He provided information on eligible expenditure, the security deposit and the preliminary review of documents by the project sponsor, before going into detail on the requirements for submitting a request for funds and finally explaining the submission process. Andreas Römer, Project Manager Consulting Services at aconium GmbH, began his presentation on consulting services – from application to payment by providing general information on the objectives of the BMVI’s federal funding program. The program supports consulting services and infrastructure measures for broadband expansion that enable effective and technology-neutral broadband expansion in underserved areas. Funding conditions, service modules and the verification of use were further core topics of the presentation. Beatrice Springborn from the legal department at aconium GmbH then explained the path for municipalities to network expansion in the regions. The expert in procedural processes explained in detail the content of the provisional and final funding decision, taking into account the general principles of EU law. In particular, she also addressed the conditions and deadlines as well as the publicity obligations to which the payments are linked.
