On August 31, the Federal Cabinet approved the digital strategy presented by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV).

The Federal Government’s digital strategy sets out the overarching framework for digital policy in Germany and provides an overview of the key digital policy projects for the current legislative period – up to 2025. It is intended to bring together the Federal Government’s political priorities on the cross-cutting issue of digitalization under one roof.

Dr. Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport:

“We need a comprehensive digital awakening for Germany. The digital strategy is a concrete vision for the future with tangible and measurable goals for the social, economic and scientific transformation process. And as the Federal Government, we are committed to implementing it by the end of the legislative period – i.e. by 2025. We want to be measured against this. The digital strategy is the course book for the entire federal government and thus the guarantor for more digital progress in our country. It ensures that digitalization does not lose priority among all the other tasks that we face. This has never happened before. With the digital strategy, we want to make it into the top ten in Europe by 2025. That must be our country’s ambition. Digital is better.” The aim of the digital strategy is to improve the framework conditions for the advancement of digitalization in all areas. Civil society, business, education and science should be able to make even better and easier use of the opportunities offered by digitalization and the possibilities for shaping digital change in the interests of the people.
