Project for senior-friendly mobility services launched: In the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project Green Silver Age Mobility(GreenSAM), six cities and two scientific institutions are working on model solutions and participation tools to increase the acceptance of environmentally friendly mobility options among senior citizens. aconium is responsible for the project, financial and communication management of GreenSAM.
A large proportion of the older population is skeptical about collective mobility offers (such as carpooling). Many senior citizens prefer private, conventionally powered cars to alternative, more environmentally friendly forms of mobility. This is mainly due to the special needs of senior citizens, such as accessibility, short walking distances, increased need for safety when dealing with strangers or time flexibility. Even well-designed sustainable transport solutions cannot develop their full potential if authorities and transport companies do not recognize these special needs and take them into account when implementing them.
The GreenSAM project aims to improve the acceptance of environmentally friendly mobility services among the steadily growing user group of senior citizens by adapting the decision-making processes of public authorities.
GreenSAM focuses on answering three questions:
- How can public transport systems become more age-friendly?
- How can bike rental systems become more age-friendly?
- How can public spaces be designed so that older people feel safer with green mobility models?
The international project was launched in January 2019. In addition to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg as the lead partner, the cities of Aarhus (Denmark), Gdansk (Poland), Tartu (Estonia), Riga (Latvia), the Southwest Finland Valonia Regional Association (Finland), the Institute of Baltic Studies (Estonia) and the University of Turku (Finland) are involved in the implementation.
Since April, aconium GmbH has been supporting GreenSAM with project management, financial management and transnational communication.
