With Gigabit Funding 2.0, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) is supporting gigabit expansion in regions where private-sector expansion is not worthwhile. Today, Federal Minister Dr. Volker Wissing handed over 18 funding decisions amounting to around 691 million euros. This will enable around 138,000 new fiber optic connections. The recipients of the notifications are representative of the total of around 570 projects funded by the federal government with around 2 billion euros in 2024. Gigabit funding 2.0 is based on the funding guideline “Funding to support the gigabit expansion of telecommunications networks in the Federal Republic of Germany” and is continuously being developed further. As part of the last further development, the BMDV successfully added a targeted gap-closing pilot program to the funding. The calls are to be made again in 2025. Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and Transport Dr. Volker Wissing: “I would like to thank you very much. You are making a decisive contribution to ensuring that your regions can soon experience progress and position themselves in the best possible way for the future.”
