Digitalization is now permeating almost all areas of life and is becoming increasingly indispensable. A reliable and fast internet connection is a decisive factor for the quality of life, especially in rural regions. The expansion of fiber optic networks plays a key role in better connecting cities and conurbations, creating equal living conditions and strengthening competitiveness.
On July 10, the Ministerial Conference of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy of the State of Brandenburg took place. The topic of the conference, to which district administrators, representatives of telecommunications companies and associations were invited, was the presentation of the “Strategy 2.0 for Gigabit Expansion in Brandenburg 2030” – @GigabitBB30 for short. This strategy is primarily a guide to help shape the gigabit expansion in the state together.
Strategy paper 1.0 was published in a similar format in October 2023. All relevant stakeholders were then given the opportunity to comment.
aconium was responsible for the development of both strategy papers and also supported the consultation process in between. The adjustments included, in particular, a more in-depth focus on the roll-out of the self-economy, updated measures in the area of the OZG broadband portal, a strengthening of dialog and networking as well as an adjustment of the funding regime in the future.
The @GigabitBB30 strategy is another important step towards the future. The aim is to provide comprehensive and future-proof digital infrastructures throughout Brandenburg in the near future so that no one is left behind by digital progress.
The event began with a welcome and introduction by Minister Prof. Dr. Jörg Steinbach, who emphasized the importance of gigabit expansion for Brandenburg. State Secretary Stefan Schnorr from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) then addressed a digital greeting to the participants and emphasized the national relevance of the strategy.
In the subsequent contributions by Dr. Andreas Klafki, LL.M. Ministry of Economic Affairs Brandenburg, and Dr. Kay Ruge, Deutscher Landkreistag, the relevance of @GigabitBB30 was underlined, adjustments compared to the previous version were explained and opportunities and challenges were discussed. Dr. Frederic Ufer presented the views of VATM, Torsten Kuhle(MDCC Magdeburg-City-Com GmbH) shared the positions and suggestions of BUGLAS Bundesverband Glasfaseranschluss and Oliver Ulke presented the views and suggestions of BREKO Bundesverband Breitbandkommunikation e.V..
aconium developed the strategy on behalf of the state of Brandenburg and coordinated the extensive participation process.
