The broadband expansion in the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) began on December 18. At the ground-breaking ceremony in Brockel, Member of Parliament Oliver Grundmann and District Administrator Hermann Luttmann were joined by the Mayor of Scheeßel, Käthe Dittmer-Scheele, project coordinator Tanja Steinecke and Hella Schroeder from aconium GmbH to open the construction site.
“This is a further step towards the future viability of the district and its municipalities,” said District Administrator Hermann Luttmann happily, and Mayor Käthe Dittmer-Scheele emphasized: “All connections that are now being created are gigabit-capable and therefore permanently equipped for the growing demand for bandwidth.” With a grant of over three million euros from the federal government, the white spots in the district that have not benefited from the district’s own expansion in recent years are now being closed.
The state of Lower Saxony is contributing a further quarter of the costs via EU funds. The district and the municipalities involved are sharing the necessary co-financing. By March 2019, over 170 kilometers of fiber optics will have been installed. FTTB development will enable more than 2,000 households and over 150 companies to benefit from internet speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s once the project is complete.
