In the REGIONALE dialog process, twelve key projects for combining regional strengths were developed in November 2022 and confirmed by the confirmed by the Brandenburg state government. This marks an important milestone in the implementation of the regional development strategy. The key projects form the basis for the further process of regionally supported, equal development in the state of Brandenburg. Based on the cabinet decision, the regional players will now concretize their projects and implement them with the support of the state government.
The Regional Development Strategy (RES) of the state of Brandenburg is based on key points and strategic guidelines and sets important priorities through key projects that have emerged from a joint dialog process between Brandenburg’s regional stakeholders. This opens up new perspectives, strengthens the exchange between them and combines Brandenburg’s strengths in a targeted manner.
The twelve key projects approved by the cabinet address the potential and challenges in the regions of Brandenburg: from infrastructure projects, the development of new residential and commercial areas along the rail-bound development axes, the design of tourism offers, the establishment of an innovation campus to new forms of ecological land use and the stabilization of the landscape water balance. The strength of the projects lies in their integrated approach – regional alliances of urban and rural stakeholders work together in a dialog-oriented process across different areas and topics.
Development of key projects
The thematically multidimensional key projects were developed with a view to involving the entire area of the sub-regions. They are now being implemented jointly in the alliances of district and municipal sponsors, business and scientific partners:
Prignitz-Oberhavel
- “Brandenburg Gate”
The key project focuses on infrastructure development on the one hand and the development of attractive residential, working and living locations along the Hamburg-Berlin rail-bound development axis on the other, the radiance of which should have an impact on the rural areas of the region.
- Future axis Prignitzexpress
The aim is to promote living and working along the RE6 axis in order to ensure the competitiveness and cohesion of the region and promote sustainable development. This is to be achieved primarily through the creation of more attractive rail transport and the development of sustainable solutions for living and working along the axis.
- Development of the life science cluster in OHV on the north and north-west development axis
The aim is to promote the expansion of the life sciences sector by attracting new companies and establishing the location as a research center. This is done in cooperation with universities, medical colleges and research institutions.
- (Water) tourism on the northern development axis – RE5
The key project aims to improve the region’s (water) tourism offering as one of the strongest economic sectors as well as the entire tourism-related infrastructure and value chain. The associated strengthening of local structures can create jobs and increase the overall attractiveness of the region as a place to live and work.
Uckermark-Barnim
- Innovation Campus Metropolitan Region Berlin-Stettin meBEST
The campus is to be developed as an infrastructure offering (building) at the Schwedt/Oder site and proactively address structural change with regard to a forward-looking energy supply and ecological transformation. These topics are intended to increase the attractiveness of the location for companies from various economic sectors and industries.
- Climate change-adapted land use – Uckermark-Barnim water balance
The aim of the project is to increase the retention function of the landscape and thus safeguard natural resources. Adaptations for forestry and agriculture are to be developed on the basis of a small-scale analysis. Regional value creation through new products can also result from this.
Oderland-Spree
- Eastern Railway Development Corridor – climate-friendly – innovative – cross-border
By expanding and networking the infrastructure, the focus is on innovative, sustainable transportation options to the stops along the Ostbahn in parallel with the upgrading of the railroad line. The connection of innovation and knowledge locations along the Ostbahn is to be strengthened. Among other things, the dynamics created by the establishment of the TESLA plant in Grünheide are to be better managed in the area of environmental development.
- Development of Lake Helene & Katja including its surroundings
The key project is aimed at a moderated participatory process to develop a guiding idea for the future use of the local recreation area. Due to landslides, the water surface and shore areas of the Helene Lake recreation area have been closed since May 2021.
- Experience space design in the Oder-Spree lake district
The plan is to further implement and bring to life the Oder-Spree Lakeland brand and thus create an overall experience in local recreation and nature tourism.
- Multidimensional design of the area around Fürstenwalde/Spree station
The relocation of the loading station from the railroad station to the Hegelstrasse commercial area will create development impetus for sustainable mobility as well as urban development impetus for the area around the railroad station and the northern station suburb.
Lusatia-Spreewald
- Berlin-Lausitz innovation axis
The key project will connect innovation locations such as the Adlershof Technology Park and the planned Lausitz Science Park in Cottbus. The aim is to create an innovation landscape that will help to attract more research and companies to the area. Collaborations will be initiated along the route, for example with a building for co-working workplaces in Lübbenau/Spreewald, in order to capitalize on the development dynamics of these locations for rural areas and at the same time contribute to sustainable mobility and settlement development in the region.
- Technology Park Funkerberg – Königs Wusterhausen
The Funkerberg Technology Park combines business, technology and research and is part of the site development concept at Schönefelder Kreuz. In the key project, the construction plans for the technology park and housing construction are discussed first.
