The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) has published the new short report on broadband availability in Germany. This report presents the key findings of the data surveys on broadband availability in Germany as at the end of 2020.

The latest figures continue to show a positive trend in broadband expansion throughout Germany, both in cities and rural areas. The availability of connections with over 1000 Mbit/s has increased again in the last six months and now stands at 59.2%, i.e. well over half of all German households have access to bandwidths in the gigabit range.

With an increase of around 6%, there has also been a significant rise in gigabit availability in the development of business parks within six months. The expansion of broadband at schools and hospitals is also proving successful and more than half of the hospitals and schools in Germany have bandwidths of at least 400 Mbps.
The broadband atlas provides an overview of the scope and development of the federal funding program for broadband expansion.

For the first time, the report includes key figures on the development of broadband availability since the end of 2018 in the federal states and by spatial category. The results are based on data provided by the telecommunications companies. The survey was commissioned by the BMVI and carried out by aconium GmbH.
