The publication deals with sustainable and intelligent urban lighting and presents the results, recommendations and tools that have been identified and developed so far in the LUCIA project.
From lighting technologies to questions of economic efficiency and environmentally friendly procurement through to the ecological and social impact of intelligent lighting: the first volume of the LUCIA compendium offers interested parties comprehensive information and practical examples on a wide range of urban lighting topics. For example, municipal stakeholders will find specific tips and advice on which quality and guarantee criteria should be taken into account when procuring LED luminaires as well as which means can be used to reduce light pollution and how initial assessments of the economic and ecological benefits can be made when planning lighting projects.
The compendium can serve as a quick introduction and guide with numerous other references and enable a better understanding of urban lighting and its new developments. However, the aim of the compendium is also to inspire political decision-makers and show them what developments are possible, desirable and necessary in the field of sustainable and intelligent lighting today.
The knowledge gained in the first phase of the LUCIA project will be put into practice at six pilot sites in the cities of Albertslund (Denmark), Hamburg (Germany), Jūrmala (Latvia), Porvoo (Finland), St. Petersburg (Russia) and Tallinn (Estonia). The results and findings of these pilot projects will be presented in the second volume of the LUCIA compendium, which is expected to be published in fall 2021.
The first volume of the LUCIA compendium, which was produced under the leadership of Tallinn University of Technology, is available for download on the LUCIA project website.
