From February 11 to 15, 2019, a seminar week of the Erasmus+ project EPIC will take place in Barcelona. Over five days, students and teachers will take part in workshops on problem-based learning, transnational cooperation and project development and implementation. For the 35 students, this is the first direct meeting with their team members. For EPIC, it is the official start of the second year.

Companies once again had the opportunity to submit case studies in advance. Students from EPIC partner universities were able to apply to work on them. As part of EPIC, students have the opportunity to write project work, bachelor’s or master’s theses on these case studies and thus gain practical experience. aconium GmbH is also making two projects available for processing.

Seven international teams emerged from the application and selection process. They are now working on the topics of urban farming, autonomous driving, computer networks, cyber security, smart city, application development and virtual reality.

With the help of the EPIC materials, the teams consisting of at least two students from different universities are currently familiarizing themselves with the projects and making preparations for the official project launch. In addition to an exchange of content, the seminar in Barcelona primarily serves to allow the team members to get to know each other personally.

We are looking forward to an exciting week and to supporting the students and lecturers with experience in project work from an entrepreneurial perspective.

Background:

The Erasmus+ project EPIC (Improving Employability through Internationalization and Collaboration) prepares students for the job market. Using the method of problem-based learning, participants work on case studies provided by companies in small international teams. The practice-oriented learning approach focuses on self-determined, discovery-based learning. The close integration of academic teaching with entrepreneurial reality is one of EPIC’s main objectives. There is also a focus on international orientation: the 35 students in the current project phase come from eight universities in eight European countries.
