The winners of the European Broadband Awards 2022 were announced at the Award Ceremony in Brussels on 27 September 2022. Finalists from Austria, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Norway, Poland, Spain and Sweden took part.
The winners and special jury awards in five categories focus on innovative models of financing, cost reduction measures, socio-economic impact, demand generation and quality of services. The selected projects present innovative cooperative approaches and solutions for broadband deployment in Europe. A jury of five experts in broadband topics assessed and evaluated the submitted project applications and selected the following six winners:
Category 1. Innovative models of financing, business and investment
Category 2. Cost reduction measures and co-investment
Category 3. Socio-economic impact in rural and remote areas
Category 4. Demand generation and take-up of connectivity
Category 5. Quality and affordability of services
- Broadband expansion in the district of Bautzen, Germany
- Broadband Deployment Project in St. Nikolai im Sausal, Austria
Furthermore, two additional projects received special Jury Awards for their innovative features and vision aimed at reinforcing the EU international and cross-border links. The two special awards went to:
The highest number of applications came from Germany, Austria and Spain. Category 3, “Socio-economic impact in rural and remote areas”, was most frequently selected by the applicants.
