December 13, 2022: On this date 15 years ago, aconium was founded by our Managing Director Tim Brauckmüller. Since then, we have grown beyond ourselves, gained reliable partners and launched many successful projects with them, including projects to promote municipal infrastructure. Reason enough to look back at the past, recognize milestones in our work and draw inspiration for the future.

Ever since aconium GmbH was founded, one topic has been of particular importance: sustainable energy supply. From the very beginning, we thought in European terms – it was not for nothing that one of our first projects in this area was the EU project North Sea – Sustainable Energy Planning. In the same year, we prepared for the Public Energy Alternatives project, which we were subsequently able to help shape. We are still committed to sustainable energy generation today, for example in the form of the LowTEMP 2.0 project, which focuses on building the capacity of the low-temperature district heating network in the Baltic Sea region.

In the years that followed, we addressed other infrastructure issues. For example, we understood early on the importance of fast fiber optic networks for the economic growth of German municipalities and for the quality of life of local residents. For this reason, we operated the Federal Broadband Office on behalf of the then Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology from 2010 onwards. As a point of contact and expert in this field, we provided decision-makers from the regions with all the important information about fiber optic expansion for over ten years. Although our areas of responsibility have expanded, our core activities still include providing local authorities with all the necessary information on infrastructure programs.

We have also built up expertise in the field of mobile communications. We are supporting the expansion of the 5G network in rural regions: For example, we have analyzed Brandenburg’s entire mobile network on behalf of the digital agency Brandburg GmbH and thus created a map of all white and grey areas. This map forms the basis for a targeted and resource-efficient expansion of mobile communications capacities.

If you want to drive digitalization forward, you need to know the individual situation in the municipalities. You therefore need to know the specific requirements of the regions, their stakeholders and the concerns of the citizens living there in order to lead projects to success. This is why we established our Regional Development team ten years ago, which provides regions with tailored support for their projects.

Today, we support the public sector with project development in many other areas: Mobility, energy and education, for example. We design the communication of infrastructure projects, run training workshops, organize events, test smart city models and mediate between business and the public sector. All our ambition, our partners, our projects and our employees have brought us this far and give us the confidence to master the years leading up to our next anniversary and to continue to grow.
