On December 19, the second of three sections of the subsidized broadband network in the district of Dahme-Spreewald went into operation in Krausnick. Also present: representatives of the state of Brandenburg, the district of Dahme-Spreewald, the telecommunications company carrying out the expansion and aconium GmbH, the project sponsor for the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure’s (BMVI) broadband funding program.
District Administrator Stephan Loge: “This is an important step towards providing citizens, entrepreneurs and tourists with faster internet, which is essential. Targeted broadband expansion offers the district of Dahme-Spreewald a wide range of opportunities to consolidate and expand its position as an attractive place to live, work and recreate.”
With the help of federal broadband funding, the district is investing in a high-performance network. More than 5,600 households, over 170 companies and 67 facilities such as schools and hospitals will receive broadband connections with data transfer rates of at least 50 Mbit/s. The BMVI is funding the project with almost 8.6 million euros, with the state contributing 6.8 million euros and the district 1.7 million euros.
During the event, Brandenburg’s Minister of Economic Affairs Jörg Steinbach handed over a grant to District Administrator Stephan Loge for the further expansion of broadband in the region.
Steinbach: “Well-developed broadband networks are a key prerequisite for technological progress and economic development. Our everyday interactions are also becoming increasingly digital. The provision of modern broadband is now a location factor when choosing a place of residence or company location.”
