Following the signing of the broadband expansion contracts in March, the Salzland district invited people to the ground-breaking ceremony for the broadband expansion in the Üllnitz district of Staßfurt. On 24.05.2018, District Administrator Markus Bauer, Mayor of Staßfurt Sven Wagner, Ellen Greifender from aconium, the sovereign project management agency of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), representatives of the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the telecommunications companies involved in the expansion, came together with numerous interested parties from the region for the festive occasion at the former site of the Royal Prussian Salt Mine, the first potash mine in the world.

The Salzland district will receive almost 6 million euros in funding as part of the BMVI’s federal broadband funding. Saxony-Anhalt is also funding the infrastructure project with almost 9 million euros. By the end of next year, more than 1,600 kilometers of fiber optics and over 500 kilometers of empty conduits are to be laid in order to provide the Salzland district with network infrastructure. The necessary civil engineering work will provide almost 36,200 households, 34 schools, four hospitals and over 3,800 companies with fast Internet access. District Administrator Bauer sees this as the basis for the future development of the district and for making the rural area liveable and sustainable for all generations.
